Cells: Bricks of Life
Each human being is a fantastic masterpiece of nature. Each single body is composed of over 37.000.000.000.000 (37 trillion) single bricks (cells). So far, science has identified over 400 different cell types, each with its own unique special function and structure. It is a miracle how the interplay of all these cells is orchestrated to allow us to live.
In today’s research and medical practice, there is one cell type with special interest: stem cells. On the one hand they are able to proliferate and thus generate more and more cells, and on the other hand they are able to develop into various distinct cells types. Therefore, they are crucial for maintaining our health and for regeneration processes. Due to these characteristics, stem cells represent a promising tool for future medical applications.
